Our goal is to set out and publish a clear development path that our players and their families both understand and sign up to. We have created the development roadmap in order that everyone involved with the organization understands what development is taking place at each age and team level. The roadmap also allows skills that will be needed at the next and subsequent levels to be understood, introduced and practiced.
We believe that publishing a player development program is crucial to player development, after all how can you measure development if you don’t have a benchmark of where the player should be at a particular level?
At every age level we will ensure that critical skills are introduced and mastered at the right time. Out aim is to improve all player’s technical skill, confidence, game play experience and success on the field – all while having fun and sharing their experience with like minded team mates.
Our program focuses on developing all player’s physical baseball skills whilst promoting a work ethic and positive attitude. because working on both physical skills and mental aspect of the game game is vital to achieve success in baseball and to allow players to continue to a high level.
The focus of all of our teams will be player development above all else. We do not expect or ask any of our players to specialize in baseball alone. We understand and encourage all players to play other sports – but we do want all of our players to engage in baseball practice sessions year-round. The reason for this is that baseball skills development is ongoing and cumulative. Progress and advancement is achieved in the off-season with players who put the time and effort in, seeing the greatest advancements in their game.
Our aim is for all of our play to get continuously better. We strive to build good throwing mechanics, keeping track of how much kids are throwing and instill proper throwing habits.
With hitting, we want to give players the correct mechanics that will deliver success at the plate. We help players to develop a solid mental approach and gain experience playing at a high level that will help carry players through high school and into college baseball.
We also teach the little things that makes a big difference, the footwork, the hustling on and off the field, playing and treating everyone connected with the game with respect.
We hope setting out our development plan with help our players and families set a clear path towards their goals, and when the time is right, assist players with the college recruiting process.
Progressive Program
The Northeast Eagles program is progressive from the point the player is accepted into and joins the program until the player is eligible for a higher level of baseball play (usually college and beyond.) This means that players are prepared to compete in their current level (league age group) and are simultaneously prepared to to be made ready for the next higher level (league age group) and the rule changes that the player will be playing in. This pre-framing for success is part of the success the Northeast Eagles teams and many of its players have experienced.
It is critical for initial and continued development and progress within the game that there is a defined structure and process in place to ensure that each player receives age and level appropriate instruction and training to ensure that their experience is the best possible one and their skills are current for the level of play and competition that they face at each stage.
Skills Training
The player development roadmap is dependent on the players age and experience to ensure that there is appropriate training carried out at each level. However, regardless of the player’s age, experience, skill level, league or baseball diamond size, all Northeast Eagles players will always work on:
As the players start to fully understand the game of baseball, the much talked about “mental game” is taught to all players to help develop an intelligent approach to hitting, throwing and base running. Physical skills and techniques are always taught in conjunction the mental reasoning and processing that is essential for ongoing progress and development in the game.
Training Seasons
Our program provides an in-season and off-season instructional program that includes a weekly practices at our indoor facility. The off-season program will differ according to which league you will play in and when the in-season league takes place.
Our coaches also provide instruction and practice at individual positions with team practices, lessons and clinics. There may be additional speed, strength and conditioning training one to two evenings per week.
The Northeast Eagles introduce speed and strength conditioning into the program early and continue throughout all ages. We recognize as players grow in size and strength, physical fitness is an important element of any player’s arsenal of tool. Along with speed and strength conditioning we incorporate dynamic stretching and dietary advice to ensure our player continue to stay in peak condition throughout these important formative years.
Fall Practices – November 1 (may begin in October) to December 31 (All teams)
Each week during these months we will hold two practices a week at our indoor practice facility with our coaching staff. Everything we do for the rest of the year will reflect back on the education gained during this time. While these practices are optional, we ask you to attend these practices as regularly as possible, or some players may fall behind. We reserve the right to take some days off on or near holidays.
Winter Practices – January 1 to March 31 (All teams, Note: 15U & 16U will end around March 15 when the players’ high school seasons begin)
We will continue to hold two practices a week at our indoor practice facility. Preparing the individual and the team for upcoming competition will be the focus. In order to give the team the greatest chance for success, we require all players to attend these practices. Without enough players or certain positions present, the plan prepared by our coaches is put in jeopardy. At this time, we will be assessing the individual components of the group in order to begin bringing them together into a cohesive unit for competition. Attendance is of great importance to both the team and individual.
Eagles Year Schedule
Note: We will do our best to provide a consistent schedule of practices, but we reserve the right to make changes to the schedule at any point.
Commitment
As part of ongoing development players and their families are expected to make a commitment to the program and understand that participation in both off-season and in-season scheduled practices, games and tournaments is required.
While we understand (and encourage) that players do participate in other organized team sports players committing to our teams must attend practices with the team and commit to additional practice sessions in their own time – such as private tunnel time.
